Set your printers to be black and white by default. Google Chrome honors the print options set on the printer. Help me Spiceworks-Kenobi, you're my only hope. If you can't tell, I'm a little irate about this. It needs to be effortless on the part of the users. ctrl-shift-p actually fixes the problem completely by forcing the use of the system dialog, where our printers always default to black and white, but that isn't good enough. There is an old version of this as well that also does not work.

  • Adding the " -disable-print-preview" argument to the Chrome shortcut.
  • although the old one that actually allowed you to disable it completely is now gone.
  • Under chrome://flags, disabling any of the print preview options.
  • This needs to happen without any user intervention, because learning new things is hard.
  • Users cannot be relied upon to actually look at what printer they are sending the job to or if they are sending a color or black and white job, so I need to come up with a solution that either forces Google Chrome to print in Black & White by default every time no matter what, unless changed by the user, or a solution that simply disables Google Chrome Print Preview and uses system dialog instead.
  • Management doesn't like this because color printing costs more.
  • Chrome's printing settings are "sticky", meaning that if a user selects a specific printer and color for a print job, then goes about their day and goes to print something else out later, it will now default to that printer and color. User initiates printing through either right-click > print or using the print option from the 3 little dots in the upper right corner of Chrome.
  • User brings up something they want to print in Chrome.
  • Once again IT is called upon to rescue users from their own ineptitude and laziness.
